The prevalence of ciguatera fish poisoning in Belize is relatively low in comparison to other nations. However in 2017 there were three known incidences of fish poisoning, one in Crooked Tree with fish caught in July, and one in August, with fish sold in Ladyville, captured at Turneffe, and the most recent report coming in from Punta Gorda.
ECOMAR is collaborating with the Belize Fisheries Department and Public Health Service to compile a list of all cases of ciguatera fish poisoning and test samples of edible fish. If you have information on instances of ciguatera fish poisoning please submit the details. |
