Haulover Creek - Belize City's Best Kept Secret

Tall red mangrove trees line the waterway from where it breaks off from the Belize River, to the Burdon Canal. However, urban growth is causing areas closer to Belize City to encroach on the tall red mangrove trees that form a canopy high overhead that thrive along the water's edge.

The tall red mangrove trees provide a unique experience through a scenic trail where kingfishers, hawks, coatimundi and howler monkeys can be seen.

TiTi Wire Lewis and his crew got the contract to clean navigation channels each year including;
  • Haulover Creek
  • Burden Canal that leads to Gales Point Manatee via the Jones Lagoon
  • Channels that lead into Northern Lagoon and Manatee Lagoon
Gov't had a special DREDGE by name ' OPPOSSUM ' that used to dredge this Channel from Haulover Mouth to the Harbour, - It was a SElF Loading Dredge with a large Hatch that would empty into the sea.
