ST KITTS - SASSY 
Released Jun 27, 2021

The second turtle known to have crossed the Caribbean Sea from the Leeward Islands to Belize is Sassy, a female loggerhead sea turtle.  Sassy was found by fishers in Nevis floating off shore in Jun 2020.  She had an injury to her carapace likely from a boat strike.  Sassy was transfered to St Kitts for treatment and rehabilitation.  The broken and necrotic pieces of shell were removed, she was given medication, and she began to heal.  

Sassy was released on Jun 27, 2021, and within 6 weeks, has made her way to our shores in Belize!  The most recent signals sent from Sassy's iridium satellite tag had her moving along the northern point of Lighthouse Atoll to Turneffe, and now Ambergris Caye and Bacalar Chico Marine Reserve, and most recently she has made her way to Mexico! Where is she heading next? Does she nest in Nevis/St Kitts area and forage in Mexico, or vice versa?  Stay tuned for updates.
