Sea Turtle Rehabilitation
Establishing a sea turtle rehabiliation facility in Belize has been one of ECOMAR's long term goals. In partnership with the Belize Fisheries Department, ECOMAR has been responding to stranded sea turtles and providing the best possible care for more than a decade. Resources are limited but we provide the best possible care available. The care provided includes immediate care at the Animal Medical Center Veterinarian Clinic and consultation with international turtle vets. The care we provide is improving, as we move to open the St George's Caye Education & Rehabilitation Facility.

2018 Linda and John Searle interned with Sea Turtle Inc for a week to learn husbandry, water treatment, and rehab
2019 Constructed the “Turtle Labs” a wet lab and dry lab to house and treat turtles
2021 Received a donation of 8 fiberglass tanks from Sea Turtle Inc
2023 Erected a repurposed 1500-gallon tank to house adult turtles & launched a fundraiser for an adult turtle tank
2024 Rehabilitated our smallest patient ever, a 2.5-pound green turtle that was attacked by an unknown predator. Bubbles doubled her weight and eagerly swam away when released near St George’s Caye two months later
